Scalloped cornice

A fabric covered wood cornice mounted over draperies or blinds neatly frames a window and adds architectural interest to a room.

scalloped corniceA cornice is practical also – it hides the heading and the hardware at the top of the window treatments, keeps out sunlight from around the top and edges and helps block out drafts.  You make a scalloped cornice in much the same way that you make a straight cornice first making a template and drawing that design on the board.  You then cut the face board on the marked lines.  A scalloped cornice will add softness and more interest especially if it is a small window as shown here.
