Petal Valance

petal valance

A petal valance is a series of flaps overlapping each other to create a unique look.  By using two coordinating fabrics you enhance the uniqueness.  Piping along the top edge and covered buttons add a finishing touch.  This petal valance is mounted on a board many inches above the window frame adding visual height to the room.

    Hi Susan,
I too love this valance and would love to buy the pattern to make it and also directions for hanging.
I have two windows – 72″ and 52″ wide including molding. You mentioned you hung the valance on wood. What are the dimensions, including thickness, of the wood and how is it attached to the wall? Are there wood blocks on each end of the wood to attach it?
Thank you so much for sharing this.

Your unique petal valance with covered buttons is perfect for my bathroom. I want to embroider seashells on the top three or four petals with coordinating fabric on the bottom petals. My wood valance is 29″ across with a 4″ side (sticks out from the wall 4″) I do sew quie a bit but am hesitant to tackle this without instructions. • lynneNovember 27, 2015 - 2:52 pm

On the petal valence, did you lay the fabric over the covered board? Did you attach piping along the top? I love it and can’t wait to create.

  • Susan DorbeckNovember 27, 2015 - 5:30 pm

I pinned and sewed all the petals together then sewed on the piping. Once this was done I sewed loop tape to the seam allowance of the piping and stapled hook tape onto my board making it easy to install and/or remove the valance. You could also staple it directly onto the board.

  • Susan DorbeckNovember 27, 2015 - 5:31 pm

By all means, please send me your measurements along with a picture of your window and we’ll go from there. Costs depend on size of window, fabric, install etc.

  • Betty SellsDecember 14, 2015 - 6:23 pm
